What it is and how it works
Botox for bruxism
Bruxism is the habit of clenching or grinding your teeth, often while you sleep. When the masseter, the muscle that closes the jaw, overworks, you get morning fatigue, tension in the temples and tooth wear. Botulinum toxin reduces that activity for a while so the muscle uses less force, without taking away your ability to talk, eat or smile.
It's usually recommended when you already have a diagnosis or a heads-up from your dentist, and it works as a complement to the night guard, not a replacement. If the pain comes from a joint injury no one has evaluated, or if there's pregnancy, breastfeeding or a neuromuscular disease, we look for another path first.
The injections take 15 to 30 minutes and you get right back to your day. The effect builds gradually and lasts for months. In some cases, the lower contour of the face looks slimmer over time. Sessions start at $950.000.

- 02Avoid alcohol during the 24 to 48 hours before your appointment.
- 03Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and other anti-inflammatory medications for 2 to 5 days beforehand, if your physician approves, as they increase the risk of bruising.
- 04If you take anticoagulants or have a bleeding disorder, please let us know before the procedure.
- 05Tell us if you have temporomandibular (TMJ) symptoms, pain when chewing or ongoing dental treatment.
- 06Let us know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular disorder or a past reaction to the toxin.

After
- 01During the first 4 hours, avoid lying completely flat and do not massage or rub the treated area.
- 02Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis and intense heat during the first 24 hours.
- 03You can eat and speak normally; favor easy-to-chew foods the first few days if you feel jaw fatigue.
- 04Resume your routine right away: the treatment requires no downtime or recovery period.
- 05Keep using your night guard if your dentist recommended it.
- 06Maintain habits that reduce clenching: stress management, good rest and avoiding gum or very hard foods.
What's normal and what to expect
It is normal to experience mild redness, sensitivity or small bruises at the injection points and a slight feeling of jaw fatigue during the first few days.
