Before you decide
Is it right for you?
We tell you frankly when this treatment is a good option and when we'd rather assess you first.
Ideal if…
- Your acne scars are depressed and look like shadows
- Deep dimples on your legs or buttocks bother you
- You notice the scar improves when you stretch the skin
- You want to smooth the surface of a specific area
- You can set aside a few days in your schedule for bruising
We assess you first if…
- You take anticoagulants without medical monitoring or have a bleeding disorder
- You're pregnant or breastfeeding
- There is inflamed acne or an active infection in the area
- You tend to form keloid scars: we assess this first
Before you decide
The questions we hear most, answered straight.
- Does it hurt?
- We use local anesthesia: you'll feel the needle prick at first and then only pressure while we work. In the following days the area will be sore and tender, a discomfort that is usually tolerable.
- How many sessions do I need, and how long does it last?
- Some scars improve with a single session, while others need 2 to 3. Releasing the bands usually gives long-lasting improvement; even so, some may reattach and need another session.
- How many days does recovery take?
- Depending on the area, swelling and bruising usually last one to two weeks. You can resume many activities soon, as long as you avoid intense exercise for the first few days.

What it is and how it works
Subcision for dimples
Some scars and dimples look sunken because fibrous bands underneath anchor the skin down. In subcision, we pass a fine cannula under the skin to cut those attachments. Once the skin is free, it can rise, and the small amount of internal bleeding encourages new tissue to form and support it.
It works for acne scars that look like shadows, for marked dimples on the buttocks or legs and, in general, when the mark improves as you stretch the skin. Plan for a few days of bruising. We don't do it if you have a clotting disorder or take blood thinners without medical supervision, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if there is an infection or inflamed acne, and we assess any tendency to keloids beforehand.
Each session lasts 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area, and plans range from 1 to 3 sessions. You'll have bruising and swelling for several days; once they fade, the change starts to show and keeps improving over the following weeks. Pricing starts at $650.000, local anesthesia included.

We answer your questions

How much does subcision cost?
Subcision with a fine cannula costs from $650.000. That price covers local anesthesia, the procedure, the initial medical consultation and your aftercare instructions. During your consultation we decide which areas to treat and how many sessions you need.
Does it hurt?
We use local anesthesia: you'll feel the needle prick at first and then only pressure while we work. In the following days the area will be sore and tender, a discomfort that is usually tolerable.
How many days does recovery take?
Depending on the area, swelling and bruising usually last one to two weeks. You can resume many activities soon, as long as you avoid intense exercise for the first few days.
How soon will I see results?
The change starts to show once the swelling goes down and keeps improving over the following weeks, as new tissue forms under the skin.
How many sessions do I need, and how long does it last?
Some scars improve with a single session, while others need 2 to 3. Releasing the bands usually gives long-lasting improvement; even so, some may reattach and need another session.
What side effects are possible?
Bruising, tenderness and swelling and, less often, irregularities or small nodules that we check at your follow-up visit. That's why we review your medications beforehand and give you clear instructions.
Who shouldn't have it?
We don't do it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if there is inflamed acne or an infection in the area, or if you take blood thinners without medical supervision or have a clotting disorder. If you tend to form keloids, we assess that first.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes. For acne scars, we often pair it with scar treatment or fractional CO2 laser, and when the dimples are caused by cellulite, it's complemented with cellulite treatment. We decide the order during your consultation.
